How We Source Seeds: Building Relationships with Farmer Custodians
Key highlights
- Seeds decide aroma, resilience, mineral content, and how a grain feels when ground.
- Industrial seed systems chase uniformity; custodial systems chase flavour, adaptability, and story.
- We work exclusively with the latter.

How the Partnership Works
- Custodian farmers maintain open-pollinated seeds on their own land. We provide breathable seed bags, moisture meters, and drying racks so quality stays consistent.
- We pay a small advance every season so seed saving is funded even if weather turns. Farmers are never out of pocket for stewarding biodiversity.
- During harvest we record GPS coordinates, soil tests, and rainfall patterns. Each batch of flour can be traced back to a field log—not just a warehouse.
Why Traceability Matters
When you scan the QR code on our packs (coming soon), you'll hear directly from the farmer, see photos of the seed stock, and understand the price we paid. Transparency builds trust but it also builds accountability; we can't hide behind generic supply chains when faces are attached to flour.
Open-pollinated seeds may look messy on paper, but they carry flavour memory. Keeping them alive is the quiet activism that makes your daily ragi dosa taste like something rooted, not replicated.
